Adult Classes
Beginner General Classes
These classes cover all the fundamental aspects of kung fu such as conditioning, self-defense drills, punching, kicking, blocking, grappling, weapons training, and forms. Adults and Children have separate classes except during Monday night Open Class, which is available to all students.
Class will promptly start at its scheduled time and will most always begin with a 10-15 minute warm up and a 10 minute stretch which will be followed by either drills or forms (empty-hand or weapons) training. On the occassion Sifu Derek Johnson can not make it to class, the class will be headed by one of the schools senior student coaches.
What are ‘forms’?
“Forms” are routines, which contain a series of techniques and conditioning moves. Forms help students to perform self-defense techniques better because forms train stamina, balance, speed, economy of movement, power, breathing, application, coordination, timing, concentration, fighting spirit, and awareness. The number of techniques incorporated in just one form can range from 70 to 200, which obviously require a great deal of conditioning to complete. The ability to actually use the techniques in the form is important in Jow Ga Kung Fu schools.
We have two basic rules in ALL of our classes:
RULE #1 - Be respectful to the school’s founders, teachings, teacher, and students
RULE #2 - Work at your own pace
Notice: Students who are going through physical rehabilitation or have an existing medical condition, which should be taken into consideration when involved in any exercise program, must have written permission from their physician before taking any of our classes. Students must make every instructor aware if they have any aforementioned condition.
The Jow Ga Kung Fu Athletic Association recommends that everyone should consult his or her physician before taking any exercise program.
